‘I should have protected him’ – Hunt concedes about ‘unfit’ ex-Kaizer Chiefs star

Stellenbosch coach Gavin Hunt has conceded that former Kaizer Chiefs defender Given Msimango is not fully fit to effectively complete a game.

The 29-year-old is among the new players brought in by the Maroons, including Thabiso Lebitso (Orlando Pirates), Sinoxolo Kwayiba (Chippa United), Terrence Mashego (Mamelodi Sundowns, Loan), George Matlou, Tlakusani Mthethwa (Richards Bay), Ashley Du Preez (Kaizer Chiefs), and Gopolang Taunyana (Kaizer Chiefs).

His deal involved Langelihle Phili, who joined the Soweto giants in coach Fernando Da Cruz’s bid to strengthen the attack.

Phili left Stellies alongside Omega Mdaka (AmaZulu), Dejean Ah Shene, Kazie Enyinnaya, Wayde Jooste, Ibrahim Jabaar, Kyle Jurgens (Durban City), Lee Langeveldt, Khomotjo Lekoloane, Kobamelo Kodisang (end of loan), Tshegofatso Mabasa (End of loan), Oscarine Masuluke, Athenkosi Mcaba (Sekhukhune United), Thabo Moloisane (Kaizer Chiefs), Mthetheleli Mthiyane (Orlando Pirates), Olisa Ndah & Asekho Tiwani (End of loan), Ashley Cupido (Kiryat Yam, Israel), Nathan Garrow (Aukland City, New Zealand), and Henri Stanic (Azam FC, Tanzania).

Unfit Msimango!

On Tuesday, Msimango made his official debut in the Premier Soccer League fixture against Durban City FC that ended goalless. However, he struggled to keep up, especially with 20 or so minutes to go.

“He did well; I believe he was good, he’ll be good for us,” the Premier Soccer League-winning coach, with a now -defunct SuperSport United FC, said in his presser with the media.

“But obviously he hasn’t been fit. He came here very unfit. I should have protected him in the last 20 minutes, which I did,” the 62-year-old concluded.

The next PSL outing for Stellenbosch will be on Friday, September 11, against Sekhukhune United.
