Ex-Orlando Pirates tactician on his knees: ‘I want to coach Kaizer Chiefs!’

It is almost guaranteed that Kaizer Chiefs will be under a new coach for the 2026/27 Premier Soccer League campaign.

The Amakhosi management trusted Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef with the job following the exit of Nasreddine Nabi early in the season. However, the duo has struggled to take the Glamour Boys to greater heights owing to what many stakeholders feel is their inexperience with top teams.

Currently, the Glamour Boys are chasing top three position which will grant them a ticket for the CAF inter-club competitions.

Nevertheless, former Orlando Pirates coach Owen Da Gama insists he is the man who can help Chiefs get their lost glory. The 64-year-old has further stated he needs a season to turn things around at the Naturena Village.

“I am saying Kaizer Chiefs. Chiefs is the club I want. If I can get Chiefs just for a season only,” Da Gama told Phalaphala as quoted by FARPost.

“It’s in my bucket list if the opportunity arises. If only I can get Chiefs I can tell you. I don’t want to overhype myself but it’s in my bucket list. But I wouldn’t mind any other team.

“I learnt a lot from Dr Irvin Khoza and I am still grateful that I was given the opportunity to work at Orlando Pirates. That opportunity put me on the map, let’s be honest.

“The PSL is a big brand, what Dr Khoza did for football in this country is big. The PSL is one of the biggest Leagues in Africa. So I think the standard of football in the country has grown tremendously,” Da Gama concluded.
