Ex-Pirates winger Saleng’s first words after making Sundowns debut

Monnapule Saleng made his Mamelodi Sundowns debut on Sunday against Sekhukhune United at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

With the game locked 1-1, the former Orlando Pirates player made an instant impact, setting up Iqraam Rayners for the club’s second strike. The game eventually ended 3-1 in favour of the defending champions who are now on 41 poinst from 18 games.

Saleng is among the three players who joined the Brazilians in the Jnauary Transfer window alongside Khulumani Ndamane who came in from TS Galaxy and Brayan Leon who had made a name at Colombian outfit Indipendiente Medellin.

The 27-year-old was delighted with the impact he made for Masandawana, explaining how it felt playing in a competitive game for the first time in a couple of months.

“I want to thank the coach, technical team and the players, the preparation was good – since training and coming into the game and I need to thank [Miguel Cardoso] was giving me the opportunity to play today,” he told teh club’s website.

“The fans made me feel welcome; it’s been a while since they’ve seen me play. I was happy and I appreciate the reception from the supporters. I’d also like to thank the captain Themba Zwane and all the player for encouraging me in training.

“I just want to continue winning, that’s the only thing I want us to do and that’s the most important thing. It feels good for me – this is a team that always strives to win.

“I’m happy to be able to contribute amongst the three goals that were scored. It shows that I also have something to offer this team going forward,” Saleng concluded.
