Ex-PSL Record Top Scorer to Assist in CAF CL and CAF CC Group Stage Draw

The Premier Soccer League top goalscorer for the 2006-07 season has been confirmed as one of the Draw Assistants for the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup Group Stage Draw, set to take place on Monday, 3 November.

The draw will determine the group stage matchups for 16 clubs in each of Africa’s premier club competitions. Among the contenders are South African sides Mamelodi Sundowns, Kaizer Chiefs, and Stellenbosch FC, who will discover their group opponents during the live event.

Zambian football legend Christopher Katongo, a revered figure in African football, was the Premier Soccer League (PSL) top goalscorer in the 2006/07 season, netting 15 goals in just 15 matches for Jomo Cosmos. Remarkably, he clinched the Golden Boot despite transferring mid-season to Danish club Brøndby IF in January 2007, his tally remained unmatched by the end of the campaign.

Beyond his PSL exploits, Katongo captained Zambia to their historic 2012 AFCON title, cementing his legacy as one of the continent’s most influential players. His career spanned clubs in South Africa, Denmark, and China, and he remains celebrated for his leadership and clinical finishing.

Joining Katongo as a draw assistant is Alexandre Song, the former Cameroon international and midfield stalwart. Song represented the Indomitable Lions in multiple AFCON tournaments and FIFA World Cups, and enjoyed a successful club career in Europe, including stints at Arsenal and Barcelona.
