‘Fifa hates Bafana Bafana, these are rubbish rankings! How can Nigeria be above South Africa?’

Published on by

The National Soccer team Bafana Bafana jumped a place up in the recent Fifa World rankings released on Thursday, April 3.

South Africa, who are unbeaten in their last 18 games across all competitions, managed to secure maximum points from their last two 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Benin, respectively.

The fans in Mzansi are not convinced that the team moved up by just a position – from 57 to 56, with others insisting they should be at least within the top 50 bracket. Have a look at their arguments.

South Africa deserve to be 49th worldwide and at least seventh in Africa –  Mzansi Trendz

Bafana Bafana deserve to be above Tunisia, Mali, Nigeria, and the Democratic Republic of Congo in the standings – Karabo Tshweu

I thought an 18-game unbeaten record would do wonders for our FIFA rankings, clearly, there's still a lot of work to be done. Tenth in Africa is not bad, it can only get better – Nhlonipho Nxumalo

Fifa just hate South Africa, period! Bafana Bafana can't move one spot after 18 games unbeaten – Owethu Mphiwa

These are rubbish rankings; Bafana Bafana are third in teams that are enjoying the longest unbeaten run in the world, and they should have ranked in them in 50 –  Sibaxolele

Rankings only entertain wins with no silverware in Europe. Here in Africa, you must lift a major trophy to really move up – SH Ntanzi

Went to Afcon and won bronze, number 10! 18 games unbeaten, still 10th. I remember at one stage Belgium was Number one in the world with Zero trophies – Pabalelo Molale

Maybe we need a tutorial on how these FIFA rankings work. We can't move one spot after almost 20 matches unbeaten – Lebogo Mabula General

We need to play teams higher than us to accumulate more points. If you beat teams higher than you, you move up quickly on the rankings – Slomo Khulu

If it was Mali or Tunisia in such form they would be in the top five in Africa and probably top 30 in the world but for Mzansi the ranking system works slowly – Musawenkosi Zwane
