Finally! Mosimane gets maiden win at Esteghlal

Celebrated South Africa coach Pitso Mosimane has finally collected his first win with Iranian heavyweights Esteghlal.

The 60-year-old started his reign at the club in a low; the Blue Boys lost 3-1 in the Jingles' first game in the Persian Pro league against Kheybar Khorramabad which followed with another 2-0 defeat versus Tractor FC.

The latest outing was in the AFC Champions League against a quality Al Hilal team where they were humbled 3-0.

Zamani gives Mosimane maximum points

On Saturday, Esteghlal hosted Mes Rafsanjan FC at the Shahr-e Qods Stadium in the league assignment.

Both teams were desperate for maximum points since they had not had a good run from the previous matches they had played in Iranian top-flight football. Abolfazi Zamani scored the only goal of the match in the 9th minute.

Despite the many chances by either team, no goal came forth.

What comes next for Esteghlal and Mosimane?

The win this weekend is definitely a welcome relief for Mosimane after three consecutive losses across all competitions.

Prior to the game, Esteghlal were placed 14th but they are now 10th with 11 points after the 10 games they have played. It was just their third win in the Persian Pro League underlining the need to be consistent which will give them the motivation and confidence they need.

After the international break, Mosimane's side will host Mes Keman in the Hazfi Cup on November 25 before an AFC Champions League outing against Pakhtakor FC and Al Ahli respectively.
