Fired from Kaizer Chiefs & now given notice of exit! Woes extended for ex-Amakhosi coach

Things are becoming thick for former Kaizer Chiefs and now-defunct SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt.

Hunt was shown the door by the Swanky Boys in March owing to the struggles experienced on the pitch which could have resulted from the financial struggles that ended with their slot being sold to Siwelele.

The Premier Soccer League newbies Durban City gave the 61-year-old a chance to work with them.

Well, he has not been badly off domestically; despite the elimination from the Carling Knockout, the Citizens have sustained their top-eight position in the league. The team is currently on 19 points from five wins, as many losses and four draws.

Why Durban City want to sack Hunt

“Durban City have formally issued head coach Gavin Hunt with a notice of their intention to terminate his contract prematurely,” SABC Sport reported on Monday.

“The reelations behind the scenes have grown increasingly strained. Information gathered by the public broadcaster indicates that chairman Farook Kadodia and Hunt have clashed over the club’s long-term planning, recruitment strategy and broader football philosophy.

“Hunt has hinted in recent interviews that several key decisions, including player signings, were not handled in a way he believed would best serve the team, suggesting he had not been afforded the freedom he expected.

“These tensions were further underscored by the departure of sporting director Ernst Middendorp, who left the club after only three months. Middendorp and Hunt are understood to have disagreed sharply on technical and structural matters, adding another layer to the ongoing discord within City’s football hierarchy,” they added.

It is interesting to see who will take over, in case the decision is formalised.
