‘Forget his age!’ Why Pirates have been urged to go for Zungu

Orlando Pirates have been urged to consider signing former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Bongani Zungu.

The Buccaneers are unbeaten in the eight games played across all competitions and are currently in the MTN8 final and in the Caf Champions League group stage for the first time since the 2018/19 season.

The 31-year-old is a free agent after parting ways with Masandawana at the end of the 2023/24 campaign.

“Forget his [Bongani Zungu] age, and I don’t care who says what, but they need to know that they hardly reach anywhere like the quarterfinals,” former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye told iDiksi Times.

“Forget age, I mean if a player is good, he is good, quality is quality and that’s how they mature. So, Pirates need Bongani Zungu.

“If they can get that boy and even someone like Kamohelo Mokotjo it would be good for them. I mean someone who is fearless, someone who can deliver defense-splitting passes. Credit to his past coaches like Rulani [Mokwena] and Pitso [Mosimane] because they worked on him post his days at Tuks.

“I mean his crosses are like those of players who play in the number 10 position. He plays forward passes more than backward and sideways. They need Bongani Zungu.”

After leaving the Premier Soccer League champions Masandawana, Zungu was linked with the Glamour Boys but it turned out to be just hot air.

Rulani Mokwena's Wydad Athletic Club were the other team that showed interest in the midfielder but the deal never materialized.
