Former Kaizer Chiefs coach Gavin Hunt confirmed by PSL’s newbies

Premier Soccer League newbies have confirmed former Kaizer Chiefs tactician Gavin Hunt as their new coach ahead of the 2025/26 Premier Soccer League campaign.

The position fell vacant after the exit of Simo Dladla, who masterminded the team's promotion to the South African top-flight football. Hunt, who has won the Premier Soccer League four times with SuperSport United – three times, and Bidvest Wits, has been a free agent since parting ways with the now defunct Swanky Boys a couple of months ago.

City are keen on ensuring they get someone who can help them survive the hungry jaws of the PSL opponents. While AmaZulu have since appointed Dladla as Arthur Zwane's assistant coach, Durban have went for experience.

Hunt brings a wealth of experience to Durban

“We are thrilled to welcome Gavin to Durban City. His record speaks for itself. We believe he is the right person to lead our team into this exciting new era,” club chairman Farook Kadodia said after Hunt's appointment.

“His professionalism, football knowledge and winning mentality are exactly what the Club needs as we strive to compete at the highest level.”

Durban are convinced they have the right man for the job, “With a distinguished career spanning more than two decades at the top level of South African Football, Hunt brings a wealth of experience, having won multiple league titles and domestic trophies,” they stated.

“His strong leadership style and results-driven approach align perfectly with Durban City’s ambitions as we prepare for the upcoming 2025/ 2026 Betway Premiership season.”
