Former Orlando Pirates head coach Milutin Sredojević has lauded Rulani Mokwena’s MC Alger following their clash on Tuesday.
Currently in charge of ES Setif, who are battling near the relegation zone, Sredojević came up against Mokwena for the first time since their days together at Pirates, where he served as head coach and Mokwena as his assistant.
According to iDiski Times, Serbian tactician Milutin Sredojević , affectionately known as “Micho”, expressed great admiration for Rulani Mokwena’s MC Alger after the match.
“First of all, we played a well-coached team. A team that played with 12 players, 11 on the field and the 12th being their supporters,” he said.
Micho explained that his team had prepared thoroughly and managed to contain MC Alger in the first half, drawing on his knowledge of Mokwena’s football philosophy from their three years working together.
“At half-time we emphasised what needed to be closed and what could be exposed. Things worked well in the first half, but in the second half one cross from player number 25 caught our young defender Naem, and we conceded the first goal. The second came from the same player, who created the penalty that they converted.”
Despite the defeat, Sredojević’s comments highlighted the respect he still holds for Mokwena’s tactical acumen and the strength of MC Alger’s support base.
