When will Gaston Sirino make his Durban City debut after leaving Chiefs?

Former Kaizer Chiefs duo Khalil Ben Youssef and Gaston Sirino were reunited at Durban City a couple of weeks ago.

The latter was appointed as the club’s head coach while Sirino is among the new faces at the Citizens. Others who have joined the Nedbank Cup champions are Kyle Jurgens (Stellenbosch), Bandile Shandu, Seth Green (Orlando Pirates), and Tashreeq Morris (Kaizer Chiefs).

Interestingly, Ben Youssef will be up against Cedric Kaze on Saturday, August 1, whom they coached with at Amakhosi last season as co-coaches. Kaze was appointed as Sekhukhune United’s tactician.

Durban City supporters expected to see Sirino in action during the KZN Premier’s Cup last weekend, but that was not the case. Mfanafuthi Mkhize and Fezile Gcaba were also missing in action.

Update on Sirino ahead of the Babina Noko date

Ben Youssef has now updated about the trio as Sekhukhune United beckons in the Premier Soccer League assignment for the 2026/27 edition.

No, there are three players, we didn’t want to take the risk with them, they felt a little bit of pain two days ago,” said Ben Youssef.

“So, we decided with the medical staff to give them rest and then they will be available next week.

“It’s not only Sirino, it’s [Mfanafuthi] Mkhize, it’s [Fezile] Gcaba. Three players are out today and hopefully next week they will start the next session with us,” he concluded.

Sirino left Amakhosi alongside Aden McCarthy (Sabah, Azerbaijan), George Matlou, Happy Mashiane and Tashreeq Morris (Durban City). There are reports that Thabo Cele might also be leaving the Soweto giants.
