Good time for Chiefs to play Sundowns? ‘People may think that, but…’

Inconsistent start by Mamelodi Sundowns is not a reason enough for Kaizer Chiefs to underrate them, according to Amakhosi assistant coach Cedric Kaze.

The Glamour Boys hope to sustain their good start in the Premier Soccer League on Wednesday when they host the defending champions at the FNB Stadium. While Amakhosi have maximum points from three outings, the Brazilians have seven.

However, Masandawana are struggling to get their flair, especially with their main man, Lucas Ribeiro, forcing a move away. The 26-year-old has been key to the club's style of play, especially in the final third.

Kaze sees no reason for his team to underrate their opponents, insisting Masandawana are still a quality outfit that can hurt any opponent.

‘It doesn't matter the context'

“People may think that [it’s a good time], but in the end, you have to do your job, you have to perform well on the field. It doesn’t matter the context of or the circumstances of the opponent, but you still have to perform well on the field,” he told the media.

“Don’t forget you are playing against the last seven-time champions, and I don’t think that those kinds of teams are troubled that easily. That’s why we’ve been talking and working for our players to not rely on the outside – not issues because there is no issues – but words that they are hearing from outside.

“We have to perform and be at our best in every second and every minute on Wednesday,” Kaze concluded.

A win for Sundowns will see Amakhosi drop from the top position on the table.
