Grobler 100th goal powers Sekhukhune to victory over Durban City

Published on by

Bradley Grobler etched his name into South African football history on Saturday evening, scoring his 100th career league goal in the PSL as Sekhukhune United cruised to a 2–0 win over Durban City in their first-ever top-flight meeting.

The milestone moment arrived in the 10th minute when Grobler latched onto a precise assist from Vusimuzi Mncube and calmly slotted home to give Sekhukhune the lead. It was Grobler’s second goal of the season and his first since netting against TS Galaxy on August 13, 2025.

Just five minutes later, Thabang Monare doubled the advantage with his first league goal of the campaign, capping off a dominant opening spell for the hosts. The result extended Sekhukhune’s unbeaten run against newly promoted sides, with their record now standing at P6 W4 D1 L1 in first-time meetings.

The Limpopo-based outfit continued their impressive form against KwaZulu-Natal opposition, going unbeaten in back-to-back matches (W1 D1), while Durban City suffered their first defeat of the season (W2 D2 L1), and their first away goal concession in the current campaign.

Keletso Makgalwa also marked a personal milestone, making his 100th PSL appearance, though it was Grobler who stole the spotlight. His century of goals places him among the elite strikers in South African football history.

Sekhukhune’s defensive solidity was once again on display, keeping a clean sheet for the fifth time in six games against newly promoted teams. They’ve now scored in 21 consecutive PSL matches, and their attacking output continues to rise, with six shots on target—above their season average of 5.2.

For Durban City, the defeat extends Gavin Hunt’s winless run against Sekhukhune to six matches (D2 L4), with his last victory dating back to October 2022 while at SuperSport United.

Sekhukhune’s early dominance was reflected in the stats: they’ve now scored three first-half goals in five games, trailing only AmaZulu (4) in that category. Conversely, Durban City’s defensive frailties were exposed, having conceded three first-half goals in five matches, with only Golden Arrows and Stellenbosch faring worse.

As Grobler celebrated his landmark goal, Sekhukhune celebrated another step forward in their campaign—one built on consistency, clinical finishing, and a growing reputation as a tough opponent for PSL newcomers.
