Happy Jele backs Orlando Pirates to sink Al Ahly

Orlando Pirates legend Happy Jele is backing his former team to triumph over Egyptian giants Al Ahly in the CAF Champions League this weekend.

Pirates take on Al Ahly in their second group stage match of the competition on Saturday December 7 with both teams having won their opening matches last Tuesday.

The Soweto giants secured a 2-1 win over CR Belouizdad of Algeria while the Egyptian side beat Stade d’Abidjan from Ivory Coast 4-2 and heading into this weekend’s clash, Al Ahly are considered favourites owing to their pedigree as record champions.

However, Jele feels Pirates have enough to secure a home win against the defending champions, pointing to previous matches when they have beaten the Cairo Red Devils.

“We once did it so why not? They are capable of beating Al Ahly at home,” Jele told iDiski Times.

“The most important thing, they just need to concentrate for 90 minutes because Al Ahly when they come here, they are going to try and defend for Orlando Pirates not to score goals. If they get a chance, they will make sure they capitalise.

“But the most important thing is they will try and not concede a goal. They will do a low-block situation. They’re not going to outrun Orlando Pirates to make sure that they get a win.

“So, the more Pirates do not do mistakes, the more they will get a chance to win.”

Pirates are in the group stages of the competition for the first time since 2019 but their good form this season has given fans confidence of an impressive performance not just in the Champions League but the PSL as well.
