Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos is set for his second consecutive Africa Cup of Nations appearance with the country.
The initial one was the 2023 edition where South Africa, who had been written off from the onset, managed to clinch a bronze. They were undone in the semi-final by Nigeria who went on to lose the final against the hosts Ivory Coast.
In the forthcoming biennial competition, Bafana Bafana have been placed in Group B with record champions Egypt, Angola and Zimbabwe.

The 73-year-old former Cameroon coach is convinced his team is better than it was two years ago, hinting his players might go all the way and win the competition for the second time since 1996.
We all know, we can dominate
“The plan is that we’ll try and have good preparations we have two years ago,” Broos told the media.
“I think the way we played this year and the year before, we have some very good qualities in the team. And we have to play like how South Africa played in the last two, three years. We don’t have to change anything.
“We all know now, we can dominate an opponent and play good football. We also know that if a match requires a fight, we can fight,” he added.

“Those are the things that are important to play AFCON or the tournament. There will be games that we dominate but there will be games where we’ll fight a lot to win the game, but we can do it also and that makes us, I think, stronger than two years ago when we started the AFCON.
“So, the plan is to continue with what we’re doing and maybe try to be better in some things,” Broos concluded.
