Has ex-Chiefs star made a WRONG DECISION? 'Football can confuse you...'

Mamelodi Sundowns recently completed the signing of former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Thabo Cele.

Last season, the 29-year-old made 21 appearances for the Glamour Boys across all competitions. However, when coach Fernando Da Cruz replaced Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze at the helm, he made it clear that Cele was not in his plans.

Following his release from Amakhosi, Masandawana swiftly acted, bringing him on board to strengthen the squad. Former Orlando Pirates and South Africa midfielder William Mokoena is not fully convinced by Cele’s move.

Cele moving was good, but…

“Eish, football sometimes can confuse you, really, really serious,” Mokoena exclusively told Afrik-Foot.

“Yeah, but for me, it was a good thing for Cele to move out of Kaizer Chiefs, because remember, he was not playing and he had an injury, and even the coach [Fernando] Da Cruz made it clear that he is not in his plans.

“So, but to go to Sundowns is another story. I mean, I find it so strange that managers and players don’t see what is happening at Sundowns; you get to Sundowns – it’s difficult to move out of Sundowns.

“Look at the scenario that happened with Thapelo Maseko. Hence, I am saying, I don’t know. Yes, Cele is a good player; I don’t want to lie, but the timing for him to go to Sundowns now, personally, I thought it was a wrong decision.

Will Cele get regular football?

The 51-year-old is not sure that Cele will get the regular football he craves to help him get back to the national team.

“And you look at Cele; he’s still young and wants to play for the national team. The question now is, is he going to get game time at Sundowns? So that he can show the national coach that he deserves to play in the national team; that’s my question,” he added.

“You that with everything happening at Sundowns, ehy! I don’t know; maybe there’s something big that he saw. We don’t know; maybe he will say why he chose Sundowns.

“But, for me, I thought he was going to choose another team because we all know the story of what’s happening at Sundowns. Do you understand? Maybe it’s better if we hear from him what really prompted him to go to Sundowns,” Naughty, as he was commonly referred to, concluded.
