‘He mustn’t follow Rulani!’: Ex-midfielder advises Sundowns defender against Wydad move

Rulani Mokwena insists he's not after South African players for Wydad Casablanca, but rumors swirl linking a Mamelodi Sundowns defender to the Moroccan giants. A Tshwane giants legend, however, has advised the player against the move.

Players like Abdelmounaim Boutouil, Khuliso Mudau (both with Sundowns) and Bongani Zungu (unattached) are some of the names that have been linked with Red Castle.

This follows the appointment of South African coach Mokwena by Wydad after he departed Sundowns a few weeks ago.

Bennett Mnguni, who is the legend of the Brazilians, has cautioned Mudau against making the move to North Africa, suggesting that he should strive to secure a transfer to Europe instead.

Bafana Bafana right-back, Mudau has already drawn interest from some European clubs after shining in the Africa Cup of Nations that was held in Ivory Coast in January/February.

“Khuliso (Mudau) is a quality player. I don't think he should go to Morocco. His first choice should be England. He deserves to play there with his quality.

“It's good that he has interest all over but England should come first. Then maybe France as well. The league there is also on a higher level.

“In England he also has the chance of playing in the Champions League or the Europa League. The same can happen in France. So, let him go to Europe,” Mnguni told the Siya crew.

“We need to export more players to Europe. That will be helping our country in developing and improving the national team. That's why I am saying that Khuliso (Mudau) should go to Europe. That will improve his game as well.

“We know that every player in South Africa or Africa dreams of playing in Europe so that's where Mudau should go to improve his game.”

Mudau joined Sundowns in 2020 from Black Leopards and has accumulated more than 120 appearances for Bafana Ba Style, with five goals and two assists to his name.
