The Bafana Bafana attacker is staking claim to a place in the national team thanks to his fine form
Bafana Bafana forward Bongokuhle Hlongwane sent a message to coach Hugo Broos with yet another goal for his MLS side Minnesota United on Sunday.
The attacker scored the second goal for his side as Minnesota won 2-0 against Sporting KC after Kelvin Yeboah had opened the scoring in the second half.
Even more special for the winger, it was his 100th game for him in Minnesota colours, marking his century with a goal as he continues to enjoy a fine season in front of goal.
How did Hlongwane celebrate his century?
Hlongwane has now scored 30 goals while providing 14 assists in his 100 games for the MLS club, 11 of them coming this season where he is among the top scorers in the league.
Deep in added time with Minnesota leading 1-0, a neat exchange of passes saw Hlongwane, who had made a run to the edge of the box, receive the ball and slot it into the bottom right corner to seal the win at the Children’s Mercy Park.
It is now back-to-back goals for the speedy winger after netting in last week’s win over Njabulo Blom’s St Louis City FC.

The winger has given Broos something to think
Hlongwane’s form should be a welcome boost for Broos who has overlooked him in recent matches for Bafana Bafana.
Broos has rarely given opportunities to US-based players but the winger’s performances and form will make it difficult to ignore him with South Africa’s next assignment being a double header against Congo Brazzaville in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in October.
