Defending champions Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns learn last four opponents
Defending champions Orlando Pirates will face Cape Town City while Mamelodi Sundowns take on Stellenbosch FC in the MTN8 semi-final.
The draw for the semi-final was conducted on Sunday evening shortly after Sundowns laboured to beat Polokwane City 1-0 in the quarter-final, thanks to an own goal from Thabang Matuludi.
The Brazilians now have a tough task against Stellenbosch who beat TS Galaxy 3-1 in the quarter-final.
Can Pirates & Sundowns reach the final again?
Meanwhile, holders Pirates will feel confident ahead of their semi-final meeting against Cape Town City.
The Soweto giants were too good for SuperSport United in the quarter-final, winning 3-1, although they needed extra-time to seal their place in the semis, while Cape Town City beat Sekhukhune United 1-0 on Saturday.
Stellenbosch and Cape Town City appear the underdogs on paper but both sides will head into the semis with confidence given what was witnessed at the quarter-final.
Stellenbosch and Cape Town can pull a surprise
Steve Barker’s men will be encouraged by how Sundowns struggled to break down Polokwane and having reached the semi-final last season, they have the experience to spring a surprise.
Cape Town City, meanwhile, will feel like they have a chance if they prevent Pirates’ dangermen from causing havoc and perhaps take the match to extra-time or penalties where anything can happen.
