How do Kaizer Chiefs plan to conquer Zamalek, Wydad and Co? Kaze responds

Kaizer Chiefs coach Cedric Kaze is counting on the experience within his squad to help them overcome some of Africa’s giants who they are likely to face in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Chiefs sealed their place in the group stages of the competition following a 3-1 win over AS Simba of DR Congo on Sunday after first half goals from Etiosa Ighodaro, Zitha Kwinika and Glody Lilepo gave them an unassailable lead before Aden McCarthy scored an own goal in the second half.

That sees them join a number of African giants in the group stages of the competition with Egyptian club Zamalek, Morocco’s Wydad Athletic Club and Angola’s Petro de Luanda among some of the sides they are likely to face.

However, Kaze believes Chiefs should also be considered one of the favourites and cannot go into the competition with their tails between their legs.

“I was checking the teams in the CAF Confederation Cup and it’s actually some serious clients; Zamalek, Wydad, Belouizdad, such good teams, we’re happy to go there and to compete,” Kaze said as per iDiski Times.

“As you said – it’s true this kind of games add experience to the players and also add belief to players that they can make things happen.”

The Burundian coach is, however, delighted that he has in his ranks youthful players who add a different spark as well as experienced heads who have the knowhow of playing in continental competitions such as Lebogang Maboe, Gaston Sirino, Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, Inacio Miguel, and Zitha Kwinika.

“I believe every player will have a part to play in this season, not only for CAF games, but league, Nedbank Cup – we need everyone to do their part,” added Kaze.

“There’s experienced players that have played continental games, Maboe, Sirino, Mshini, Miguel, Zitha, many of them.

“You know everyone is going to be very important because you cannot go through if you don’t have a very good group and we hope everyone will contribute to that.”
