Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Manqoba Mngqithi has shared his feelings about being drawn against Stellenbosch FC in the MTN8 semifinals.

The Brazilians downed Polokwane City 1-0 in the quarterfinal that was played at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

It was a hard fought victory for Masandawana who got the goal through Thabang Matuludi’s own goal in the extra time after a goalless draw in 90 minutes.

Mngqithi stated he was happy about the draw, saying they will get to be tasted again with low blocks and counter attacks from the Cape Winelands side.

“I think I like it (the draw),” said Mngqithi. “Honestly, I think it’s a very good draw for all the four teams.

“We will, again face the low block, face the counter attack and I think this is a very good preparation for us because our season is going to be defined by these type of matches.

“We are going to be playing almost this type of the match every week.

“It’s good to prepare for this because to win the championship you must be able to win these games.

“And on the issue of Iqraam by the way, it will be nice to have him.”

The semi-final first leg could be played on 21, 24 or 28 August according to the PSL draft fixtures. The South African league mother body will announce the dates soon.

Last season, Stellenbosch were eliminated in the semifinals by Orlando Pirates who went on to beat Sundowns in the final via penalty shootout.

The Brazilians last won the MTN8 in 2021, defeating Cape Town City in the final. The top eight trophy had been eluding them for 14 years.
