How loss to Pirates gave PSL outfit ‘confidence & belief!’ They are now chasing Chiefs

The defending Premier Soccer League champions Orlando Pirates started their campaign in the South African top-tier with a 2-0 victory over Milford FC.

Milford had been promoted to the Mzansi top flight football alongside Kruger United. Despite their defeat to the Sea Robbers, Dr Xanti Pupuma’s team displayed a good game, only to be undone by the Buccaneers’ experience.

Since then, the Stallions have collected 11 points from the seven games they have played, thanks to three wins, two draws and as many losses. As a result, Milford are placed just behind Kaizer Chiefs, who have a point more.

During his interview with the media, Pupuma has further lauded his players for helping each other cause problems against the Soweto giants.

Milford gave Pirates headaches

“The first game against Pirates gave us the confidence and the belief that we can compete in this division. We gave the defending champions a few headaches on that day,” he opened up.

“Fortunately for me, these boys have been playing alongside one another for a long time and they would do anything for each other.”

On Sunday, Milford beat Richards Bay 5-1 in Durban, as opposed to the uMhlathuze Sports Complex in Richards Bay. The venue is under a four-week PSL suspension after an inspection.

“No, I’m not happy because if we were in Richards Bay, we were going to have 8,000 fans attending. We don’t have the facilities and means to bring them to certain games as Richards Bay did,” the tactician concluded.

The next game for Milford will be at home against Durban City who are led by former Chiefs coach Khalil Ben Youssef.
