Hugo Broos Announce Preliminary Squad for Zimbabwe & Rwanda

Published on by

Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has announced a substantial 45-man preliminary squad in preparation for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.

This crucial double-header sees South Africa take on Zimbabwe and Rwanda next month, with the team just on the brink of securing a spot at the global showpiece in the USA.

Sitting at the top of Group C with 17 points, Bafana Bafana are in a commanding position to book their ticket to the 2026 World Cup.

Broos has opted for a comprehensive list to ensure he has all his options covered, accounting for potential injuries, player form, and tactical flexibility.

This preliminary selection will be whittled down to the final squad in the coming weeks, but it serves as a clear indication of the players Broos sees as key to his plans.

The first match is against the Warriors of Zimbabwe on Friday, October 10th, at the iconic Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban. This away fixture, which will be played in SA, will be a critical opportunity for Bafana to perform in front of their fans and secure the points needed to seal their qualification.

Following that, the team will face Rwanda just a few days later, a match that will officially conclude their qualifying campaign.

The match at Moses Mabhida is now a potential turning point, not only for Bafana’s qualification hopes but also for the integrity of the group standings.
