Hunt set to beef his defence in bid to extend Chiefs’ domestic woes

Durban City coach Gavin Hunt is hopeful of taming his former employers, Kaizer Chiefs, when the two teams clash in the domestic assignment.

The South African top-tier newbies will host the Glamour Boys at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Friday in the Premier Soccer League assignment. This will be a massive game for both teams as they strive to meet their respective targets.

Amakhosi are winless in their last six domestic games, and five in the league, which has put the pressure on the technical team led by co-coaches Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef. The Soweto giants are currently placed third on the table with 18 points.

The Citizens, who are fifth with 15 points, are aware that victory will put them just behind Chiefs. They have so far played 10 games, recording four wins, three draws, and as many assists. Ahead of the Friday meeting, Hunt has explained where he should work on to stand a chance of inflicting more pain on the Glamour Boys.

Hunt keen on tightening his defence

“We just have to look at the next game; we know what we can do and what we can’t do. We obviously need to look at a big game next and we need to be better again,” the 61-year-old told the media.

“Our defending was poor in our last match [against Bay] and we’ve to defend the crosses better. We also need to do better in one-on-one defending. There has been bad defending. It’s not like a lack of playing. We had so many opportunities, but we could not take them.

“[In] defending situations, we’ve to be better, especially if we score first and be better out of possession.

“[Carling Knockout elimination] is not a blessing in disguise. We want to play more games. We will have a period now where we don’t play for two weeks. It’s disappointing. You want to play more; the more you play, the better,” Hunt concluded.
