Former Kaizer Chiefs star Junior Khanye has weighed in on the debut of the club’s latest signing, Khanyisa Mayo.
The new centre-forward, who joined Amakhosi this month on a season-long loan from Algerian side CR Belouizdad, didn't waste any time in making his mark.
Mayo, 27, found the back of the net on his debut, a promising start in the 1-1 draw against Marumo Gallants at FNB Stadium on Wednesday.
While he was substituted just before the hour mark, his early goal was a moment of hope for the Chiefs faithful. The draw left Chiefs in third place on the Betway Premiership table, with 14 points after seven games.
The outspoken former winger said that Mayo is a motivated player and that he proved what he can add to the team right from the get-go.
Khanye believes Mayo could be the solution to some of the club’s attacking challenges and a vital piece in their campaign to challenge for the title this season.

‘I WAS NEVER WORRIED ABOUT HIS SCORING’
“Mayo gave them something other strikers didn’t have before,” said Khanye on iDiski TV.
“I think the player is highly motivated to play for Kaizer Chiefs because of his father. You could see he gave it his all.
“They needed a player who knows how to play up front and by that I mean you need a striker who understands football.
“The boy understands football coming from the SuperSport development, did well at Cape Town City before leaving. I was never worried about his scoring I was about the surrounding.”
