Thembinkosi Lorch was on target on Wednesday night as Wydad Athletic Club defeated Hassania d'Agadir 2-1 in the Botola Pro League outing. 

Prior to the game, the former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns star had found the back of the net three times in just seven outings across all competitions in the ongoing campaign. The 31-year-old has been a key player at the club since joining the Moroccan outfit permanently at the start of the 2025/26 edition.

It explains why he was trusted in the starting team as the former champions aimed at getting maximum points.

The visitors started the game on a high note, hoping to score first to ease the pressure on the players.

Burkinabe Aziz Ki, who joined Wydad from Tanzanian outfit Yanga SC, opened the scoring in favour of his team just six minutes into the game. It was a reward for a good start by his teammates.

It got better for Wydad Casablanca in the 12th minute as Lorch doubled the advantage to give his team a comfortable lead.

Despite the hosts pulling one goal back in the 18th minute through Mohamed Bakhkhach, Wydad of the Nation held on to claim maximum points.

Will Broos consider Lorch?

The win took Wydad Athletic Club top of the table with 17 points, having collected five wins and two draws from the seven games played so far. For Lorch, it is his fourth goal in eight appearances, which underlines his importance for the team.

Focus is on coach Hugo Broos, who has opted against calling the versatile attacker in his Bafana Bafana team.

However, the Belgian might be forced to consider Nyoso if he sustains his form for Wydad Casablanca, who are working on winning the Botola Pro League this season, as well as the CAF Confederation Cup.
