Is there an armband rift between Yusuf Maart and Inacio Miguel? Angola international responds

Published on by

Kaizer Chiefs fans have been calling for changes in the club's leadership as they feel Yusuf Maart is too soft to captain the Glamour Boys.

In Maart's absence, assistant captain Inacio Miguel has always done well. It explains why a section of the supporters feel the Angola international should be made the club's skipper permanently.

The versatile midfielder has been playing for Chiefs since July 2022, when he joined from Sekhukhune United, where he was also captaining the team. After being signed from Petro Luanda at the beginning of the season, Miguel has shown leadership skills and is among the popular figures in the dressing room.

The 29-year-old center-back has opened up on the debate, and about suggestions he should be the club's captain.

Maart is my leader – Miguel

“I have huge respect for Yusuf. Yusuf is my captain. I respect him a lot … he has a lot of leadership skills. I don't see any difference when it's me or him wearing the armband because we're two great leaders,” he told SABC Sports.

“For me, he's my leader. He has played a huge role for the team. He gives the face of the team; he never hides. He has a lot of personality and character; I love him a lot. I can't say that if I were the captain, things would have been better, no.

Miguel then commented on the Nedbank Cup triumph, “A lot of people doubted us but look at us now. It was written, no one can take this away from us. This is a feeling we've been searching for so long. This will stay in my memory for so long,” he concluded.

The next game for Chiefs will be on Saturday against Sekhukhune United in the Premier Soccer League outing to be staged at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.
