South Africa legend and former Manchester United Strikers coach Benni McCarthy has questioned Hugo Broos' ability to take the team to the next level.
Recently, the Belgian coach helped Bafana Bafana qualify for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations and win a bronze.
On Friday, October 11, South Africa made a huge step toward the 2025 Afcon after a 5-0 win over Congo in the qualifier that was staged at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium. A win on Tuesday will seal their place in the biennial competition that will be staged in Morocco later next year.
The team is also in a good position to make a return to the Fifa World Cup for the first time since 2010. Despite a good game and hunger shown, McCarthy doubts whether the 72-year-old can help Bafana reach their potential.

“There is a little bit of a shortage but you know you accept it because Bafana over the last few years have been nowhere; they've not qualified for any World Cups, and they have underachieved quite a lot. So the fact that they have gone on to the semi-final of Afcon, is good.
“I think with the current squad, the current generation of players that they have to choose from, they should be there and there about, I don't know if they have the right manager, and if not, whichever right man comes in, hopefully, he can take this group of players to the next level.”
