The Jomo Cosmos chairman has given accounts leading to the left-back’s decision to ditch Amakhosi

Jomo Sono has revealed how Sekhukhune United stole left-back Vuyo Letlapa under the noses of Kaizer Chiefs.

Letlapa was among a host of new signings unveiled by Sekhukhune last week and it has now emerged that he was bound for Chiefs before Babina Noko lured him.

Sono, under whose guidance Letlapa emerged, has shed light on the behind the scenes intrigues that led to the player missing out on a move to Naturena and instead opted for Sekhukhune.

‘Chiefs wanted to take him to Turkey because he is class’

“Sekhukhune [United] stole him… You invest time, money, and everything on the player, and come the end of the season, Sekhukhune come and steal him. Sekhukhune don't pay [FIFA player development fee],” the Jomo Cosmos chairman told Marawa Sports Worldwide.

“They [Sekhukhune] just took the left-back… He was training with Chiefs… Chiefs did the proper thing, they approached me professionally, unbelievable and then we spoke with them.

“I drove him from Bushbuckridge to the hotel, and the next day he trained with Chiefs. Chiefs wanted to take him to Turkey because he is class… One of the best left-backs in the country.”

Sono then blasted Sekhukhune for having a habit of poaching his players without paying anything.

‘Sekhukhune should change the name to Sekhukhune Jomo Cosmos’

“Sekhukhune United should change the name to Sekhukhune Jomo Cosmos because they have about eight players from Cosmos,” he went on.

“You invest time, money, and everything on the player but come the end of the year, Sekhukhune just steals him. All you pay is the fee to develop players, which is R100,000 if it is a premium division team, but Sekhukhune doesn’t pay.

“Some of them were professional and when they went to Sekhukhune there were transfers. They took my midfielder and goalkeeper, but they never paid anything. Even though there’s a contract, it is just a piece of paper.”
