Kaizer Chiefs announce fourth signing as Da Cruz finally lands top forward

Kaizer Chiefs have finally ended the speculation concerning the transfer of forward Langelihle Phili after confirming his signing.

Chiefs have officially confirmed the acquisition of the highly-rated young winger from Stellenbosch FC, bolstering their squad ahead of the new season.

The 21-year-old joins Amakhosi on the back of a stellar campaign with Stellenbosch, where he emerged as the club’s top scorer with nine goals last season.

His exceptional form earned him both the Player of the Season and Players’ Player of the Season awards, establishing him as one of South Africa’s most promising attacking talents.

Kaizer Chiefs confirm Phili’s arrival

“Kaizer Chiefs are delighted to announce the signing of exciting and highly sought-after young winger Langelihle Phili from Stellenbosch FC,” Chiefs confirmed on Monday.

“We warmly welcome Langelihle to the Gold & Black family and look forward to a positive and successful career with Amakhosi.”

Hailing from Durban, Phili brings a wealth of experience despite his young age. Last season, he featured in 39 matches across the PSL and the CAF Confederation Cup. His consistency and durability were key factors in attracting the attention of the Chiefs’ technical team, who see him as a valuable asset for a demanding season that could exceed 50 matches in domestic and continental competitions.

What accelerated the transfer deal?

Phili has also made his mark on the international stage, representing South Africa at various youth levels. He was a member of the victorious U-20 squad that won the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco last year.

More recently, he received a call-up to the national U-23 team as they begin their journey to qualify for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, with a spot at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games at stake.

Chiefs have pursued Phili for the better part of the last two months with initial offers rejected but a deal was struck last week when Amakhosi agreed to offer cash plus two players, Ashley du Preez and Given Msimango.

Phili will now strengthen Chiefs attack, coming days after head coach Fernando d Cruz expressed a desire to add four players at the front end of the pitch and is their fourth signing after defender Thabo Moloisane, goalkeeper Ricardo Leaner and midfielder Adolf Mtasingwa.
