Kaizer Chiefs boost as experienced attacker returns for Zamalek clash

Kaizer Chiefs are set for a timely boost for their high stakes CAF Confederation Cup match against Egyptian giants Zamalek this weekend.

Chiefs started their group stage campaign on the wrong footing when they lost 2-1 away to another Egyptian side in Al Masry and are under pressure to avoid a second straight loss against Zamalek.

It will be a massive test against Zamalek, two-time Confederation Cup winners, who won their second title in 2024, and five-time winners of the Champions League, as they started with a 1-0 win over Zambian club Zesco United.

However, the Glamour Boys can look forward to having experienced attacker Gaston Sirino who will be available for the game after serving his one-match suspension.

What does Goston Sirino bring?

Sirino is experienced on the continent owing to his six-year stint with Mamelodi Sundowns when the Brazilians reached at least the quarter-finals of the Champions League over that period and also won the African Football League in 2023.

The 34-year-old is also a seven-time PSL winner and is among a handful of players within the Chiefs squad who have won multiple titles at their former clubs which is a boost to the Glamour Boys in their quest to win a first-ever Confederation Cup crown.

Chiefs will host Zamalek at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Saturday November 29 and will be looking to bounce back from the defeat to Al Masry.

Sirino has played 14 games for Chiefs this season and scored one goal while providing two assists.
