Kaizer Chiefs ace Mududuzi Shabalala has thrown the challenge to Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos after his starring role in the Glamour Boys’ 4-1 thrashing of Orbit College on Tuesday.
Chiefs turned on the style at the FNB Stadium as they moved level on points with leaders Mamelodi Sundowns but it was the performance of Shabalala that caught the eye.
The attacking midfielder scored the first two goals for Chiefs and created the other two for Mfundo Vilakazi and Flavio da Silva to complete an impressive performance in front of Broos who was watching from the stands.
With the Bafana Bafana coach set to unveil his final squad for friendly matches this month on Wednesday, the 21-year-old made a strong case for his inclusion.
Shabalala recounts difficult start to the season
“I would like to thank Kaizer Chiefs for giving us the opportunity to play for this big team. I think for me, it hasn’t been an easy season in terms of goals and assists and I’m glad today it came and we managed to score four goals for the first time this season,” Shabalala told SuperSport TV.
“I think it’s what he has been saying and the coaches has been telling me even at the training to say, ‘play for this team and if I’m on song and everyone is going to be on song’ and I’m glad today I got my numbers and hopefully many more will come this season.”
Responding to his possible inclusion into the final Bafana Bafana squad for the match against Zambia this month, Shabalala remained confident.
What does Chiefs ace expect from Bafana coach?
“I think I did my job today and everything lies with the coach and any decision I will take it and I will keep on working hard,” he added.
The Chiefs academy graduate was also happy to see another young player from the club on the scoresheet after Vilakazi curled in a beautiful third goal and he is full of praise for the Diski Challenge.
“Firstly, I would like to thank DStv Diski Challenge for giving us the platform to showcase our talent, it’s not only me, there’s players who played in the Diski Challenge and they are abroad,” he said.
“And I just want to say thank you to them and they must continue to give us the platform and the players the next generation coming next they must just give them the opportunity and they will showcase their talent.”
