Kaizer Chiefs Transfer News: Amakhosi lauded for ‘signing of the season’

Published on by

Kaizer Chiefs have been excellent in the last five Premier Soccer League games where they have collected maximum points to stabilise their position in the top three.

One of the players who has been doing well for the Glamour Boys is Lebohang Maboe, who was among the players signed at the start of the season. Despite initial injuries affecting his influence on the club on the pitch, the 31-year-old defensive midfielder has rapidly established himself as a key member of the playing unit.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns player has made 20 appearances across all competitions from which 13 have been in the South African top-flight football where he has won four Man of the Match Awards, from which three were back-to-back.

Ex-Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Cole Alexander has explained why Maboe is the standout performer Amakhosi brought on board this season.

“He has always been one of my favourite players, him together with Teboho Mokoena,” Alexander told FARPost.

“For me, he is a complete player. I’ve been watching him. He is so calm. He even proved himself at Mamelodi Sundowns. Then at Maritzburg United [renamed Durban City], he was top.

“Maybe at Chiefs he has been helped by playing for a big team like Sundowns before coming to Naturena. So maybe he knows better how to deal with the mental side. In any case, when you’re top, you’re top.

“He made his mark at Sundowns and won titles. He has been an excellent signing for Chiefs. People talk about the signings of the season, that guy’s name should be mentioned for Chiefs,” Alexander concluded.
