Kaizer Chiefs make Luke Baartman announcement

Kaizer Chiefs have wasted little time in unveiling another former Cape Town Spurs player after confirming the signing of forward Luke Baartman.

Baartman was cleared on Tuesday when the PSL Disputes Resolution Chamber ruled in his favour, allowing him to sign for a club of his choice.

Just like his former team-mate Asanele Velebayi, Cape Town Spurs had sought the court’s intervention over a clause allowing the players to leave as free agents after the club’s relegation from the National First Division to the third tier.

However, the club lost yet again and just hours after the verdict, Baartman travelled to Johannesburg to complete his move to Chiefs as he had already agreed terms with Amakhosi before Spurs went to court.

“Luke Baartman is a Khosi,” Chiefs announced on Tuesday evening when their fans were already following their PSL clash against Richards Bay.

“Kaizer Chiefs are pleased to confirm the signing of another forward, Luke Baartman, making him the club’s ninth signing of the 2025/26 season. The 19-year-old junior international joins Amakhosi from Cape Town Spurs.”

Who else has joined the Glamour Boys?

Baartman now links up with former team-mate Valebayi at Naturena but he may have to wait longer before he starts to play for Chiefs as Spurs are expected to appeal the DRC decision just like they did with the Velebayi case.

The young forward adds to Chiefs’ attack which also saw the unveiling of Nigerian striker Etiosa Ighodaro earlier in the day.

Chiefs have now signed nine players with Baartman and Ighodaro joining Flavio Silva, Ethan Chislett, Nkanyiso Shinga, Paseka Mako, Thabiso Monyane, Siphesihle Ndlovu and Velebayi.
