Da Cruz decries offside and lack of red card

Kaizer Chiefs coach Fernando da Cruz has decried a lack of penalty for his team and sending off for Orlando Pirates during the Soweto derby on Saturday.

Da Cruz lost his first derby 2-1 despite his team dominating the first half with Pule Mmodi cancelling out Yanela Mbuthuma’s goal for 1-1 at halftime before Tshepang Moremi won it for Pirates in the second half.

However, Da Cruz, whose team ended the game with 10 men when Inacio Miguel was sent off in stoppage time, feels Chiefs should have had a penalty and that the referee should have sent off a Pirates player much earlier.

“The analysis is very easy, in the first half we must kill this game, normally two-three zero because goal of Pirates we still have to review it was offside and maybe there’s a red card so if we score two or three goals we kill this game,” Da Cruz told SuperSport after the game.

“And in the second half, in the last 20 minutes with our young players – you have a lack of experience – they don’t create chances because they have a lack of experience. We give them more chances to score more goals. They created nothing, we offered them the offensive transition.”

Meanwhile, Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou feels Chiefs should have been 3-1 up by halftime had they taken their chances.

Chiefs totally dominated the opening 45 minutes but could not capitalize on their advantage only for Pirates to adjust and win the match after the break.

“Kaizer Chiefs had the opportunity to kill the game in the first half,” said Ouaddou. “They could have easily come with 3-1 at halftime but they did not take this opportunity and in football, when you don’t take the opportunity to kill the game, you give the opportunity to the opponent to adjust and we came in the second half and killed them,” added the Pirates boss.
