Kaizer Chiefs recorded the biggest win ever witnessed in the DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) when they hammered Chippa United 11-0 in the season finale on Saturday.

Chiefs, who won the title last season, were not able to defend their crown but ensured they finished the campaign strongly when they put Chippa to the sword, topping their own win of 10-0 against the same opponents in 2018.

Naledi Hlongwane and Neo Bohloko scored braces, with six others chipping in one each plus a Chippa own goal, as goals rained from the fifth minute right through to the 83rd.

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Thabo Cele says he has had to stay strong mentally when he was not playing due to injury or not being selected as he found it tough to cope with spells on the sidelines.

“So, me coming back and trying to help the team in these last few games is something that I’ve been working towards, since I’ve been out for so many games,” he said as per The South African.

“So, it’s a mental thing, to always be up for a comeback all the time you know. So that’s football. That’s how it goes. Sometimes you’re down, sometimes you’re up and then you’re down and try to bring yourself back.”

Why third place might be tricky for Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs are highly favoured to finish third and clinch the CAF Confederation Cup slot but their four games without a win have left them in a spot of bother and things are complicated by the fact that they are yet to play against two teams fighting for the same position.

Chiefs have 48 points from 27 games, while AmaZulu have 44 from 28 matches and Amakhosi’s next opponents Sekhukhune United have 42, having played 27.

If Chiefs lose, Babina Noko will just be three points behind with two games to go while the Glamour Boys’ next match will be against AmaZulu, who could dent their chances further.

However, Chiefs can end the debate on Sunday with a victory over Sekhukhune as that would leave them seven points ahead of AmaZulu and nine more than Banina Noko with two games remaining.
