Da Cruz fumes after yet another error 

Kaizer Chiefs coach Fernando da Cruz is running out of patience with the individual errors that keep costing his side points, after a Brandon Petersen blunder allowed Polokwane City to snatch a 1-1 draw at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.

Lebohang Maboe put Amakhosi ahead in the first half, only for Petersen’s mistake to allow Giovanni Philander to score directly from a corner kick and deny Chiefs the chance to climb into the top two.

The result also meant Chiefs missed the opportunity to leapfrog rivals Orlando Pirates into second spot on the Betway Premiership table.

It is now a recurring pattern that is clearly troubling Da Cruz. The goalkeeper’s error against Polokwane was Petersen’s third howler in recent games, having also made blunders in the 1-0 MTN8 defeat to Golden Arrows and the 1-1 draw against Mamelodi Sundowns.

“It’s very easy to analyse, before we didn’t make mistakes, we didn’t give chance to the opponent to score,” said Da Cruz.

“But now since Richards Bay, then Siwelele and today Polokwane City, the opponent doesn’t create chances but we make big mistakes and we let the opponents the chance to score goals.

“We must not doubt, because we made good things but we are not enough killer in the two boxes – our and the box of the opponent also,” he added. “But we also make good things, so we need to continue to believe in ourselves because we are on a good way.”

Why Mtasingwa has barely played for Kaizer Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Fernando Da Cruz has explained that midfielder Adolf Mtasingwa’s lack of game-time is tied to his adaptation to life in South Africa, with the 27-year-old Tanzanian having arrived slightly late during the club’s pre-season.

Mtasingwa joined Amakhosi ahead of the current campaign amid considerable excitement, but has so far featured in only three matches across all competitions. He was restricted to a 23-minute cameo off the bench in the 1-1 stalemate with Polokwane City on Saturday.

Da Cruz confirmed: “It’s related to his adaptation in South Africa because he arrived a little bit late during our preseason.”

“So he needs time to adapt to our game model. He says he trusts in him a lot. After the FIFA break we will play a lot of games so we will need everyone and Adolf will get minutes,” he added.
