Da Cruz provides injury update ahead of Downs tie

Kaizer Chiefs coach Fernando da Cruz expects to be without a number of key players on Saturday when his team face Mamelodi Sundowns in a Premier Soccer League (PSL) match.

Ethan Chislett, Flavio Da Silva, Bradley Cross, Paseka Mako, Nkanyiso Shinga, Rushwin Dortley and Faiz Abrahams missed Wednesday’s game against Sekhukhune United as Chiefs won 2-0 due to injuries and lack of fitness and Da Cruz does not expect that to change given the short turnaround.

“It will be the same players because the time is too short,” said Da Cruz as per iDiski Times. “These players will be out of the squad, we also have one who we’re doubtful about. We will wait for the medical department today [Thursday] to make a decision.”

Ticketing news for Chiefs vs Sundowns clash

Over 32,000 tickets have already been sold for the blockbuster PSL clash between Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs.

Chiefs, who have started the season with two league wins in a row, welcome Sundowns at the FNB Stadium on Saturday and according to Stadium Management SA, ticket sales had surpassed 32,000 by Thursday.

“I’m confident that we will have a close-to-capacity crowd, and I hope that the weather is better,” said Bertie Grobbelaar, the Stadium Management SA boss, who is confident that the numbers will double by Friday.

Miguel lauds Chiefs for Dillon Sheppard decision

Kaizer Chiefs defender Inacio Miguel has lauded the club for bringing in DStv Diski Challenge coach Dillon Sheppard as one of Fernando da Cruz’s assistants.

Miguel has revealed how the presence of Sheppard has helped the players who have won back-to-back Premier Soccer League games.

“I always say it’s very important to bring someone to the team that understands the league, that understands the country,” he said as quoted by Soccer Laduma.

“I think the fans, the supporters, they don’t even realise how important it is to have someone that comes from the DDC. You realise that you have a very young squad, so you need someone that knows how to deal with the new players.  Especially when you have a foreign coach and a foreigner staff.”
