Da Cruz wants Champions League football from Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Fernando Da Cruz will face his toughest test yet, as Amakhosi will play host to Mamelodi Sundowns at the FNB Stadium.

The tactician has acknowledge the magnitude of the encounter, saying his side will need to produce a Champions League-level performance to match Ka Bo Yellow.

Addressing the media at Naturena, the Chiefs mentor stressed the importance of raising their game to compete with the Tshwane giants, who are widely regarded as the benchmark in South African football.

“Like all the teams, we will make and analyse from this team, but you know that it will be a tough game. It will be for our squad and our technical staff also to raise our level, to be at the same level and to play a Champions League game,” he stated.

Miguel underlines importance of positive start

Inacio Miguel has stressed how key having wins on the board has been for Kaizer Chiefs as they get on with the league business under Fernando Da Cruz.

Chiefs have moved top of the standings early in the season giving hope of further improvements on what was planted by Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef last term.

“It is very early but I think it is also important to start with the right foot. Beginning with wins is not the same as beginning with losses or draws. [Starting positively] is important to give confidence to the players and the supporters,” he said in a presser.

“Obviously, we can’t be like ‘It is okay, we achieved’. No, we didn’t achieve anything yet. We just won two games and we have six points.

“As I said, it is a long journey, and we understand that having a young squad, it’s important working over wins and not bad results or results that get you thinking about ‘we will have the same season again as we did in the past seasons when we didn’t have such a great journey’”, the Angolan added.

“So, starting with the right foot is important to give that moral and that confidence. We have a lot to achieve this season, so it is important to start with the right foot,” he concluded.

Chiefs will beat Sundowns!

Former Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns defender Derrick Spencer says the Soweto giants will come out of FNB Stadium with a three points on Saturday afternoon.

Spencer says, even though the game is hard to predict, if there were to be a winner, it will be Kaizer Chiefs.

“I have a feeling we are winning this one as Kaizer Chiefs; we are going to beat Sundowns,” Spencer told KickOff.

“Chiefs are not bad this season; we’ve put together a good team, we’ve started off well. We were just unfortunate in the MTN8 Quarterfinals game against Golden Arrows. That was the only letdown.

“Other than that, the boys are gelling well; we do have a chance to win the league this season, to be honest. The only position we still need to strengthen is upfront. We do need a striker.

“But with the players we have signed, we can put up a fight against Sundowns. They just need to be strong mentally. That’s what we need at Kaizer Chiefs.

“Things haven’t been going our way at Kaizer Chiefs; so the new players will be heroes if Chiefs were to win the league this season. There are some positives in our start, and that gives me hope against Sundowns,” he added.
