Da Cruz on Kaizer Chiefs’ best attribute

Amid the criticism that he has directed at his team and what he has received, Kaizer Chiefs coach Fernando da Cruz has identified some of the things that he likes about his side.

Chiefs have been inconsistent so far this season, winning three and drawing as many games to drop to fourth on the league standings, eight points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, who have played two games more.

However, they have kept just one clean sheet as the defence has been struggling while goalkeeper Brandon Petersen is also in the spotlight for making high profile errors.

Da Cruz, however, sees some positives amidst the tough spell.

“For sure, I’m very happy that we’re scoring,” said Da Cruz as quoted by iDiski Times.

“We just concede stupid goals, so we need to look forward. But we’re on the [right track] because every game we score. We’ll continue to attack and continue to develop our model game.”

Khanye doubts Petersen has the quality

Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brandon Petersen is in the spotlight for his high-profile errors, the latest being a late goal conceded against Polokwane City, when he failed to cover his near post on Saturday.

There are growing calls for Petersen to be dropped and among those who feel the goalkeeper is not good enough is former Chiefs winger Junior Khanye.

“Look, I’ve always had a lot of questions about Brandon Petersen’s goalkeeping and it’s just that people wouldn’t believe me, because at the time he was seen as a player who was doing well,” Khanye told Soccer Laduma.

“Yes, there had been improvement in his game during the course of last season, and his performances also helped the team to improve in getting the results. But for me, his goalkeeping has always been questionable.

“His errors have been from similar actions on the field, conceding goals from the near post. As an experienced goalkeeper, he can’t be making similar kinds of mistakes,” he added.
