Kaizer Chiefs News Today: Motaung announces Da Cruz decision, Mngqithi available after Yanga exit & more

Latest Kaizer Chiefs news, including Kaizer Motaung Jr’s decision on coach Fernando da Cruz and the Glamour Boys put alert after Manqoba Mngqithi was sacked in Tanzania.

Motaung makes decision on Da Cruz

Kaizer Chiefs Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jr has made it clear that the club will stand behind coach Fernando da Cruz despite overseeing a poor run of form.

Da Cruz is under pressure after Chiefs were knocked out of the CAF Confederation Cup on Friday, their second cup exit this season, while they are nine points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns in the league.

However, Motaung Jr insists now is the time to back the coach and not dismiss him.

“Following our unfortunate CAF Confederation Cup result, we understand and share the disappointment felt by our supporters, players, staff, and all stakeholders connected to Kaizer Chiefs,” Motaung said via a statement.

“Competing at continental level brings high expectations, and when results do not meet those expectations, naturally there is frustration and reflection.

“At moments such as these, it is important to maintain perspective and remain committed to the long-term vision we have established for the Club. Success in football is rarely defined by a single match or a single competition. It is built through consistency, resilience, and unwavering commitment to a clear sporting strategy.”

Motaung maintains that the coaching staff has the confidence of the club’s hierarchy.

“As a club, we would like to reaffirm our full support for, and confidence in, the Head Coach and the entire technical team.

“They continue to have our trust as they lead the implementation of a football philosophy and development pathway that we firmly believe will bring sustainable success. Their professionalism, work ethic, and commitment to improving the team every day remain irreproachable.

“The team is fighting hard every game to uphold a high standard of performance, and yesterday, despite the result and the injuries we carry, that warrior spirit was visible on the field.”

Kaizer Chiefs on alert as Mngqithi is sacked

Meanwhile, a coach who has been linked to the Kaizer Chiefs job before, Manqoba Mngqithi, is now available following his sacking from Tanzanian champions Young Africans (Yanga).

Mngqithi was dismissed on Saturday shortly after his team’s goalless draw with TRA United which left his team five points behind Steve Barker’s Simba SC on the league table.

It is, however, still surprising as the former Mamelodi Sundowns and Golden Arrows coach won 10 of his 13 games, drew two and lost one.

Even with Chiefs backing Da Cruz, Mngqithi’s availability will likely heighten the speculation about the Amakhosi hot seat.
