Chiefs’ latest news as they break

Chiefs have great confidence

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Fernando da Cruz says they have great confidence in the game model after defeating TS Galaxy 3-0 in the Carling Knockout on Tuesday night.

A hat-trick from Wandile Duba sent Chiefs to the quarter-finals of the tournament, ending their four-match winless run in domestic football. The Amakhosi coach claims that while they were able to score three goals on the day, there have been better performances this season.

“The difference is efficiency. We made a good game, but sometimes we made a better game, and we didn’t win and I hope that now it’s the starter for us to keep confidence and we continue on this way,” he opened up after the match.

Chiefs will now turn their focus to the Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates on Saturday afternoon.

“We’re having confidence in our model game but not in the efficiency and I hope we get ready and since this evening, we’re going to recover and we will prepare the game for this Saturday,” Da Cruz added.

They disrespected us! The donkeys made them run

Kaizer Chiefs forward Wandile Duba has fired back at TS Galaxy following their 3-0 Carling Knockout Cup victory at FNB Stadium, putting an end to weeks of pre-match banter from their opponents.

The 22-year-old put on a masterclass, netting a brilliant hat-trick to propel Amakhosi past the Rockets. Duba admitted that silencing the opposition’s taunts was a massive motivator, pointing out that TS Galaxy were nowhere to be found when it mattered most on the pitch.

“These ones disrespected us a lot in the social media for the past two weeks,” Duba told SuperSport TV.

“We knew today that we had to win this game. The donkeys made them run today and they were nowhere to be seen,” he added.

Duba hailed after heroics against Galaxy

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Fernando Da Cruz has hailed Wandile Duba’s performances in the Carling Knockout Cup, backing the striker for a nod in the Bafana Bafana squad.

After powering Chiefs to the next round of the CKO, Duba earned high praise from the French coach, who says the 22-year-old could be called up for Pitso Mosimane’s Bafana team if he remains consistent.

“He is young and a very good player. He’s able to drop and make deep runs, and he’s very good in front of goal,” Da Cruz said.

“But he must continue to work and listen to the coach, and maybe if he continues to work hard, he can become a player for Bafana Bafana.”

Duba has had a promising start to the 2026/27 season after featuring in seven matches across all competitions and scoring six goals. After his impressive performance, Duba walked away R100 000 after being named the Champion Player of the Match.
