More players coming in? Da Cruz responds

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Fernando Da Cruz remained coy on answering questions whether more players will be signed by Amakhosi this window.

Da Cruz’s side beat Kruger United 3-1 in their 2026/27 Betway Premiership opener to move to the top of the table after the first day of games.

Wandile Duba came off the bench to score a brace, and the French coach insisted every player in the squad has an important role to play.

“It’s very important because for the moment it’s not just the starting XI, it’s a full squad,” he told SuperSport TV.

“All players are important and all players who came on today were important. They helped us to keep the level very high.”

Da Cruz was then asked whether fans can expect more new signings ahead of the closure of the window in September, but Da Cruz somewhat sidestepped the questioned and insisted they need to focus on improving the current squad in training.

“We need improve our game, a lot of things. We work again and again. For the moment we need to stay calm, because we didn’t reach our best level, we need to work at Naturena every day,” he concluded.

Mofokeng inspired Vilakazi?

Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder George Lebese says he hopes that Mfundo Vilakazi is inspired by Relebohile Mofokeng’s move abroad and the Chiefs man elevates his game.

Speaking on the Best On The Ball Podcast the former Chiefs midfielder said he’d like to see some more consistency from Vilakazi and for him to emulate Mofokeng who’s also enjoyed a good start at his club Royale Union SG.

“A young player and not necessarily a new signing, but Mfundo I actually would like to see him being consistent, playing a little bit more,” said Lebese.

“And like I said off air I hope the signing of Rele going abroad has actually inspired him to want to be that player for Kaizer Chiefs because it’s easy.
