Brandon Petersen has shared his gratitude for being the Kaizer Chiefs captain. Expressing deep pride in leading Amakhosi, the goalkeeper committed to setting the standard for his teammates through his leadership on and off the field.

Kaizer Chiefs captain Brandon Petersen has delivered a candid assessment of marquee signing Langelihle Phili, revealing the highly rated winger has already settled into life at Naturena like a veteran.

Phili, 21, officially completed a high-stakes transfer to Amakhosi from Stellenbosch ahead of the 2026/27 campaign, ending weeks of intense negotiations over his valuation.

The move has sparked widespread excitement among the club’s faithful, with Phili arriving on the back of a prolific spell at Stellies where he notched 11 goals in 72 appearances across all competitions.

Now, as Amakhosi finalise preparations for their MTN8 quarter-final showdown against Golden Arrows at FNB Stadium on Sunday, Petersen has lifted the lid on what Phili has shown behind closed doors.

“I think he [Phili] has a good head on his shoulders; he’s a phenomenal player, and obviously there’s a lot of hype around him,” he told the media as quoted by FARPost.

“But I think his support structure and the people he has in his corner are quite solid. I’ve seen when he joined us [for his] first day at training, it’s like he’s been there for a long time, and for me that’s always a good sign, especially from a younger player.

“Usually young players take time to settle, but for him, he stepped in, and it’s like he was at home. For me it’s a good sign. I know for a fact that with good people around him, nothing will get into his head; he will be able to go on and enjoy his football and dish out performances that people expect.”

Chiefs’ product on new challenge

AmaZulu wing-back Omega Mdaka has reflected on his move to the club and his reunion with former Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane.

The left-back joined Usuthu from Stellenbosch ahead of the new season. He had the opportunity to join the club in 2023 after undergoing an assessment, but AmaZulu decided not to sign him.

Mdaka says he always wanted to play for AmaZulu, although it was “unfortunate” that the transfer did not happen at the time.

“To be honest, I wanted to be here, so it just delayed a bit. I was just unfortunate to leave and then come back again now, but I’m not surprised,” said Mdaka as reported by iDiski Times.

“He’s an easy-going coach as a person, but obviously during training or on matchdays, he’s very demanding,” he added.

“He expects the best out of his players and me, obviously. He’s a top coach, an even better human being, so it’s been great working with him so far.”
