Da Cruz highlights Kaizer Chiefs’ main problem

Kaizer Chiefs coach Fernando da Cruz has decried a lack of leadership within his squad after his team nearly threw away a two-goal lead.

The Glamour Boys bounced back to winning ways with a 3-2 victory over Siwelele FC on Sunday but after going up 3-1, they conceded in stoppage time.

It is the third straight game in which Chiefs have failed to keep a clean sheet and the second to let in two goals, leaving Da Cruz not impressed.

“In the first half we created several chances but didn’t score enough, in the second half, Siwelele had two chances and scored two goals, we have an issue about that, we need to improve our defence, not give these chances to opponents,” Da Cruz told SuperSport TV as per iDiski Times.

“We created so much and didn’t score, so after you can make mistakes, we’re not clinical in the boxes, offensively and defensively.

“We lack leadership and character, personality in our defensive line – so we need to correct that and work a lot.”

When Bradley Cross will return

Kaizer Chiefs coach Fernando da Cruz had explained when left-back Bradley Cross will be ready to play.

The defender has not featured this season due to an injury which has forced the tactician to play with a back three in his recent matches but there is positive news.

“Cross is very close to being able to play again and he is likely to play before the FIFA international break and during that period also we will recover other players,” said the Chiefs coach.

Chiefs coach praises Pule Mmodi

Meanwhile, the Chiefs coach has reserved praise for winger Pule Mmodi, who had a good game on Sunday. The winger played as a left wing-back against Siwelele FC and impressed in the role, leaving his coach delighted.

“He has been in the starting XI for three games and it is a good choice when we play a back three. He has grabbed his chances in these three games and played well today,” Da Cruz said after Sunday’s 3-2 win.
