Cele to Sundowns!

SABC Sport understands Thabo Cele has emerged as a high-priority target for Mamelodi Sundowns, with talks between the midfielder and the African champions believed to have reached an advanced stage.

Cele mutually terminated his contract with Kaizer Chiefs on Monday night, bringing an end to a difficult spell at Naturena after he was informed that he did not feature in new coach Fernando Da Cruz’s plans.

The midfielder missed Chiefs’ pre-season tour of Spain and had spent the past several weeks training separately while negotiations over his departure were concluded.

Now, Cele could land on his feet with a move to another South African giant.

The public broadcaster has established that Sundowns have engaged the 29-year-old over a potential move, with the Brazilians understood to be keen on adding another experienced midfielder to their squad.

Amakhosi weakness explained

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Fernando Da Cruz has pinpointed a critical weakness in his forward line, despite watching his side secure a 3-2 victory over Siwelele FC on Sunday night.

Chiefs led comfortably against Siwelele through strikes from Mfundo Vilakazi, Wandile Duba, and an own goal, but allowed their opponents back into the contest during a tense second half.

“We create chances, it’s not the problem,” Da Cruz explained. “Our main issue is we are not enough killer inside the box.

“In the first half, we are not killers. We don’t come back with two or three goals more than the opponent. In the second half, we are a little bit worried, a little bit afraid on the field, and we let the opponent come back. So it’s our main issue [on Sunday].”

Amakhosi legend shines in Zimbabwe

Kaizer Chiefs legend Willard Katsande appears to have wasted no time putting his recent coaching setbacks behind him after making a flying start at a Zimbabwean club.

Katsande joined the Zimbabwean Northern Region Soccer League side FC Oden on July 30, having been appointed head coach as he continues to build his coaching career.

FC Oden have praised Katsande after he guided the team through his first six matches, remaining unbeaten throughout that period.

“A great start for coach Willard Katsande, the coach has made an outstanding start as FC Oden head coach, and we truly appreciate his incredible performance so far,” the club shared.

“He has now coached six games, recording an impressive five wins and one draw, remaining unbeaten since taking charge.
