Kaizer Chiefs have seven players among the squad selected for the 2025 U20 Africa Cup of Nations set to take place in the Ivory Coast next month.
Raymond Mdaka named the Amajita provisional squad for the continental tournament, where South Africa are in a tough Group B, that also has Nigeria, Egypt and Morocco.
The squad includes seven Chiefs stars, among them Mfundo Vilakazi, who is a regular for the Glamour Boys in the PSL and has netted three goals while providing an assist in 23 matches across all competitions this season.
Meanwhile, the squad also has five Mamelodi Sundowns players, who include fast-rising Asekho Tiwane and Kutlwano Letkhlaku, while Orlando Pirates defender Mbekezeli Mbikazi.
What else is at stake at AFCON U20?
Mbokazi has rose to prominence in the last two games, playing 90 minutes in Pirates’ 1-0 win over Chippa United and the goalless draw with Stellenbosch FC on Tuesday, partnering Nkosinathi Sibisi.
The PSL players will inject the much-needed experience in Mdaka’s team as they challenge for continental glory.
Amajita, who beat Zambia 2-0 in the COSAFA final to seal their place at the tournament, will hit camp to begin their preparations for the tournament.
The U20 AFCON will have 13 teams participating between April 26 and 18 May, 2025, with the top four set to qualify for the 2025 FIFA Under-20 World Cup that will be staged in Chile from September 27-October 19, 2025.
