Kaizer Chiefs have secured key midfielder Edson Castillo with a contract extension, signaling their intent to retain his services.
The 30-year-old joined Amakhosi at the start of the 2023/24 season from Colombian side Monagas SC, where he had spent two years.
Castillo's original contract with Chiefs was due to expire at the end of the 2024/25 season.
His agent, Mauricio Andrade, confirmed to iDiski Times that Castillo has signed a one-year extension, with an option for a further year with the Soweto giants.

THE LENGTH OF CASTILLO’S NEW CONTRACT AT KAIZER CHIEFS
“I can confirm that Edson will stay for another season, he has renewed his contract with Chiefs and there is also an option to continue for another year,” his agent Mauricio Andrade told iDiski Times.
“Edson is very happy with his extension as it was his desire to continue with the club for next years to come. He is committed to help the team win trophies.”
Castillo remains sidelined with a long-term injury sustained earlier in the season. His eventual return will bolster coach Nasreddine Nabi's midfield choices, which currently include Thabo Cele, Samkelo Zwane, Yusuf Maart, Sibongiseni Mthethwa, and Njabulo Blom.
Several other Kaizer Chiefs players also have contracts expiring soon: Reeve Frosler, Njabulo Blom (loan with option to buy), Mduduzi Shabalala, Edmilson Dove, Yusuf Maart, Ranga Chivaviro, and Lehlogonolo Matlou.
