Orlando Pirates trio Relebohile Mofokeng, Sipho Chaine, and Oswin Appollis played a massive role as Bucs ended a 14-year wait to win the Premier Soccer League title ahead of Mamelodi Sundowns, who had won eight in a row.
Mofokeng had 10 goals and eight assists in the 27 league matches played while his compatriot Appollis had nine goals and six assists in all the 30 appearances he made for the Soweto giants.

It was even better for Chaine, who kept a record 21 clean sheets and conceded just 12 goals to ensure Bucs secured the league crown. Apart from the PSL trophy, the Buccaneers also won MTN8 for an unprecedented fourth time in a row and the Carling Knockout.
Bucs legend Eugene Zwane insists Kaizer Chiefs captain Brandon Petersen should be in the list for the Player of the Year Award alongside the aforementioned stars. The Amakhosi shot-stopper managed 15 clean sheets in the 24 South African top-tier outings to help the Glamour Boys finish third.

“There’s a few, I think the two goalkeepers from Pirates and Chiefs by virtue of their clean sheets and their outstanding performances. They deserve to be there. I’m talking about Chaine and Petersen,” he said as quoted by iDiski Times.
“I think Relebohile Mofokeng for by virtue of the fact that his contribution has been by far the biggest in the Pirates team. I think Apollis has been far more consistent than Mofokeng.

“But Mofokeng’s contribution is bigger. So, I think they both should be there. For me, those will be the four players in contention for the Player of the season,” he concluded.
