Kaizer Chiefs star reveals shocking death threats

Kaizer Chiefs striker Wandile Duba has opened up about some worrying issues that he has been facing lately.

Duba has started the season as the preferred striker by coach Nasredine Nabi, featuring in their opening four matches, but he was conspicuously absent from the squad as Amakhosi beat Golden Arrows 1-0 last weekend.

The 21-year-old has now revealed that his absence was down to some personal issues that he has been facing which have left him in a spot of bother.

Duba has been criticised in some quarters over his ‘aggressive’ playing style which some Chiefs fans are not happy with and the striker has fired back.

“No, no, no. It's part of the job. You do well, they talk. You do bad, they talk. I just keep on focusing on what I do best and I don't mind all the negative comments,” Duba said on Wednesday at the Nedbank multipurpose court handover at Phulong Secondary School in Springs, as quoted by Soccer Laduma.

“Does it affect you when people say you play aggressively? No, it doesn't actually. It doesn't because that's how the coach wants us to be.”

The striker then laid bare the length of the criticism, revealing that he has been facing death threats from fans online, something that affected him to the extent of taking time off from last weekend’s match.

“It's just the comments, people coming to your account, commenting threatening to kill you and all that. I don't think in the last game I wasn't in the right state of mind. So, I didn't even go to go play,” he added.

Duba’s words come two days after he posted a surprising comment on his Instagram story, captioning it “departure” which had some fans thinking he was on his way out of the club.

The young striker, who came through the ranks at the club, was the top scoring forward at Chiefs last season and he has one assist in the four games he has played this term.
